Letter to Governor Gregoire

Dear Gov. Gregoire,

My name is Frank Colletti, and I am a constituent of yours. I live in Pierce County, in the city limits of Tacoma. I am also one of the many legally authorized Medical Cannabis patients in the State of Washington, and in the United States in general. I am one of those, who like many others, have been arrested for my medicine, simply for being in possession of it, and smelling like it.

I was in the City of Fife, and the Police Officers there have a known dislike for the Medical Cannabis patients that have come through their jurisdiction. I, like many others, have been a victim of what is known in the current legal structure related to Medical Cannabis as "Police Discretion." That discretion is the major issue solved by this current legislative bill, SB 5073.

I know that you have read the bill, and understand it's implications, and I urge you to consider passing it in it's entirety. I have avidly followed the bill since it's inception, and original construction, on through it's many changes it's taken since then. I feel in it's current form, it will essentially solve many of the problems that are currently afflicting those of us in the Medical Cannabis community.

We seek an appropriate measure of protection, that which should have been included in the original re-writing of our RCW 69.51A. That which is inclusive of the protections for patients, a voluntary, state-run, patient registry, and also the major implications of increasing protections for patients as they relate to discrimination and medical transplantation.

These all are included in the current structure of the bill, and again I ask you to please consider signing the bill in to law, so that I, and all the rest of us in Washington that have an authorization, will never have to be arrested again.

Thank you for your time,
Frank Colletti
